Jennifer Garner on Being a Working Mom

Jennifer Garner on Being a Working Mom

Even in Hollywood, it's hard to be a working mom. "It's always tricky," admits Jennifer Garner.

The actress recently sat down with iVillage at the Frigidaire Stain Games in Glendale, Calif. -- an event benefitting the nonprofit organization Save the Children -- and described life as a career-focused mother as "worth the struggle."

"It's a lot of juggling ... but it's worth the effort," says Garner. "It's great for kids to see their moms having many roles in the world. I have two daughters (Violet, 5, and Seraphina, 2, with husband Ben Affleck) and they have a really broad idea of what women can accomplish and do in a day. That's really important to me."

Garner, 39, also says it's paramount for her girls to "see their parents do work for other people," which is why, despite her busy schedule, she is committed to philanthropy.

Since 2009, Garner has been working with Frigidaire and Save the Children as a U.S. Programs Artist Ambassador. This partnership has given Garner the opportunity to head from Capitol Hill, where she testified before the Senate Subcommittee on Children and Families advocating for federal investments in early childhood education, to her home state of West Virginia, where she visited an elementary school and was able to spend time and read to students.

Not only does Garner strive to set a good example for her girls by showing them how to help others, but she also tries to live her life by remembering sage advice from her own mom. "She always says happiness is your own responsibility and that's probably what I quote from her and live by the most," says Garner. Wise words we can all live by!

Watch our exclusive video above to find out how Garner has followed in her mom's footsteps and why she's so passionate about helping kids live better lives.
